Abstract:

In the last five years, the Catholic University of Cuenca-Azogues Branch-and the city of Azogues itself-have experienced a migration process, receiving students from different parts of the country, especially from the provinces of the Costa region. This context has created several social problematics that should be discussed academically. One is related to discriminatory events on the part of the receiving community, probably influenced by prejudices, stereotypes and social imaginaries. The objective of this work was to determine the existence of discriminatory facts and their types, from the perception of coastal students of the Catholic University of Cuenca-Azogues Branch. In order to carry out the research, a universe of 143 coastal students was taken, taking a sample of 105 students, to which a survey was applied on various topics concerning the problem addressed. Moreover, 15 interviews were applied to go deeper in the problematics. The results showed that there is discrimination of coastal students by the host community in different areas, through verbal and psychological violence.
