Millimeter-wave front-end integration concept using beam-switched lens antenna
Abstract:
A millimeter-wave mobile communication base-station of compact form factor is discussed which could provide tens of users within a range of several tens of meters with data-rates in excess of ten gigabit per second (Gbps) for each user (that is, aggregate wireless throughput of the cell well above 100 Gbps). The discussion focuses on hardware aspects in order to identify key technologies and challenges. Innovative techniques like gradient-index lens antenna and chip-to-antenna coupling by means of spherical dielectric resonator make the system realistic using straightforward improvements of today's technology.
