Minimization of Active Power Losses in a Multi-Terminal HVDC Grid: Alternative Approach Using Meta-Heuristics Algorithms
Abstract:
Efficiency improvements in direct current electric power transmission systems have become a significant task during the operation of power systems due to the fact that High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems will be a key component in the future energy system based on renewable energy sources. This paper proposes the analysis of some meta-heuristic algorithms to define the set-point voltage to minimize active power losses in a multi-terminal HVDC grid. DC Grid Test System developed by CIGRE for educational and research purposes is taken as a case study, then meta-heuristic algorithms are evaluated using the simulator DIgSILENT PowerFactory. Results depict that an accurate converter voltage set point based on optimization techniques is a feasible solution to improve the efficiency of DC grids.
