Model for the Escatron pressurized fluidized bed coal combustor

Abstract:

A semi-empirical model for the performance simulation of a PFB coal combustor has been developed. Pbkp_rediction capabilities include: bed temperature 1-D profiles, bed density, char and sorbent elutriation, in-bed and entrainment particle size distributions, fuel feed rate, oxygen and carbon dioxide concentrations, heat transfer to the tube bundle and heat transfer coefficients along the combustor height. The model is intended to simulate the behaviour of a large size installation: the PFB combustor of the Escatron 80 MWe power station (Zaragoza, Spain); the main objective was to develop an effective tool for plant efficiency optimization. Good agreement is found between the computed results and actual data at different operating conditions. The suitability of several assumptions and correlations in the FBC semi-empirical modelling are, thus, evaluated. This paper describes the model, as well as its results, validation and perspectives for future work.
