ISSN 2071-081X. Abstract The purpose of this article is to report the inquiry made about knowledge management in the Higher Education Institutions of Zone 4 of Ecuador. The method used is a non-experimental documentary with a transectional approach. The results obtained guide the academic discussion about the requirements facing knowledge management in higher education institutions, which has a lot to do with the interrelation of the actors in the different management processes, which range from socialization, outsourcing, combination and internalization of tacit and explicit knowledge.
