A METHODOLOGICAL PROPOSAL AIMED AT IMPROVING THE TREATMENT OF OLDER ADULTS VICTIMS OF ABUSE IN THE CANTON OF CUENCA, ECUADOR

Abstract:

The abuse against older people is considered worldwide as a phenomenon that is present and underestimated in every sense, and although its causes are not precisely known, other research has shown that the percentages of abuse are high. About one in six older adults are victims of abuse and it is estimated that this figure will continue to increase due to the aging of populations around the world, according to the World Health Organization. During the period of confinement due to the Covid 19 pandemic, families have had to restructure their way of life, almost forced to share most of the time of the daily routine. Stressful situations increased, which may have increased to some extent the abuse and mistreatment of the elderly. Despite the existence of laws for the protection of the elderly, violence and mistreatment are still evident. This situation was the motivation for the present investigation. For which a survey was made to older adults, which was processed through the Iadov method. In a second phase, a proposal for a Strategy for Intervention in these cases was made, data that were processed through the Fuzzy Cognitive Maps.
