Mojanda volcano (Ecuador): two contemporaneous volcanoes with distinct eruptive dynamics, development and geochemical characteristics) (French with abridged English
Abstract:
Two major closely associated volcanic centres (Mojanda and Fuya Fuya) comprise what was previously considered as Mojanda volcano. After the building of two basal edifices, these centres developed different histories and eruptive styles. At Mojanda, following a caldera collapse stage, a new cone, consisting mainly of basic andesitic tephra grew over the remnants of Mojanda I. At Fuya Fuya, explosive activity related to siliceous magmas was dominant. Two eruptive cycles began with cataclysmal rhyolitic Plinian eruptions and ended with dacitic dome formation. The distinct types of development shown by Mojanda and Fuya Fuya volcanoes are related to two geochemically different magmatic suites. -from English summary
