Monitoring system of physiological signals with emergencies management for the road safety of cyclists

Abstract:

This article proposes the development of a physiological signal monitoring system applied to cyclists. The purpose of this research is to allow them, through a low cost and energy consumption equipment, to share the road with vehicles and pedestrians without risking their integrity. The prototype consists of two parts, a fixed part located on the bicycle and two wearable devices used by the cyclist. In the mobile part, the cyclist's temperature and pulse oximetry data are processed. On the other hand, the fixed part is responsible for managing the alerts generated by the system and send this information through the MQTT protocol to a server in the cloud. The response times of the system will be analyzed simulating alerts. The maximum time it will take a bicycle station to post a topic on the server in the tests performed is 1.07 seconds, the minimum time is 137 milliseconds and the average time of all alerts generated is 563 milliseconds.
