Morphometric analysis of the Curucutí Creek catchment, Vargas State-Venezuela

Abstract:

The Curucutí Creek catchment is located at the north slope of Ávila Massif (10°33′08" - 10°36′23" LN and 66°57′38" - 66°59′14" LW), on the central western part of Vargas state. The purpose of this work is to determine and to interpret the morphometric parameters of this catchment. The methodology was based on calculations and measurements of the morphometric parameters by using topographic charts scales 1:5,000 and 1:25,000. The results suggest that this catchment is a hydrogeomorphological system whose morphodynamic and hydrological responses are determined by its small area, hillsides and channels with steep slopes at the mountain area, medium drainage density, a 4 order drainage network, mean bifurcation relationship of 4.69, high torrentiality, the storms dimensions, and intensity and duration of the rains.
