Abstract:

The results of this research show the extraction of natural dyes of animal originin aspects such as cultural diversity, innovation, sustainable development, and entrepreneurship. Three phases are presented: In the first, it is supported by an exploratory and descriptive investigation in which data were collected from the indigenous community of Salasaca (Tungurahua Province, Ecuador) and an unstructured interview was applied to the members of this group; who among several ancestral knowledge still practice the extraction of the cochineal dye which they use for the elaboration of products such as cosmetics, natural fibers, textiles, etc. In the second phase, a quasi-experimental study was carried out in which the dye extracted from the mealybug was applied to various types of paper and cardboard using the lettering technique with of rubber stamps. Finally, in the third phase, events and observations of the research team were registered during the experiment, as well as validation criteria by experts in the area on malleability, color reaction, intensity, quality, tone or hue, gloss-luminosity, value and color saturation. It is concluded that ancestral knowledge and nature have sustainable alternatives for innovation and entrepreneurship in packaging design.
