Natural extracts a preservative alternative in the cosmetics industry

Abstract:

The present study relates the preservative action of commercial ingbkp_redients (Parabens), with three natural extracts: Rosemary essential oil (Rosmarinus officinalis), essential oil and hydroalcoholic extract of Isphingo (Ocotea quixos Lam. Kosterm), incorporated in two cosmetic formulas: shampoo and facial creams. The research is carried out using the ISO 11930: 2012 method (Challenge Test). The results determined that the creams that used as preservative mixtures of: extract-essential oil of Isphingo at concentrations of 10%-0,4% and 15%-0,4% and with essential oil of 0,4% did not show any difference significant compared to the commercial preservative, in the case of Rosemary essential oil the incorporation of 1% in shampoo shows preservative activity similar to that of the commercial preservative and the incorporation of 2,5% presents greater antimicrobial efficiency. Based on the results obtained, the extracts have preservative efficiency and could replace the use of synthetic preservatives in the indicated formulas.
