Natural fibers as a carbonaceous substrate in the biodenitrification of fish farm effluents

Abstract:

Bioreactors with cabuya fiber proved to be more effective in the removal of nitrates and nitrites than bioreactors with wheat straw fiber. Cabuya fiber as a carbonaceous support of denitrifying biomass represents an economic and efficient innovation for the treatment of aquaculture wastewater water, facilitating its recirculation and/or reuse in agricultural irrigation or in discharges to bodies of sweet water.
