Neuropsychiatric syndrome in systemic lupus erythematosus
Abstract:
Neuropsychiatric Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (NP-SLE) is a syndrome with a wide range of multiple clinical presentations. At the present time, we can define it with 19 different types. The clinical incidence of NP-SLE is 25% in the patients with SLE. The diagnosis is based on clinical suspicion, accurate differential diagnosis, neuroimaging studies (CT scan, MRI and MRA). The serologic support is based on antibodies like antiribosomal P, lupus anticoagulant and anticardiolipines. Treatment consists in corticoids and, in some cases as rescue agents, immunomodulators like intravenous cyclophosphamide and plasmapheresis. We present a clinical case which permits discussion of what is mentioned above.
