New alternative for blood transfusions in dogs with heterologous blood

Abstract:

The difficult acquisition of whole blood canine veterinary clinics leads us to seek usefulness of the heterologous transfusion in dogs, using human blood type O +. For this 20 dogs of different age race, sex all with low hematocrit (less than 37), which were separated into two groups selected. Group A was applied heterologous blood (human blood type O +) and group B will apply homologous blood (bleeding canine without typing). The volume applied to each animal was calculated to 15 cc of 10/kg liveweight. With the results obtained allow to conclude that the heterologous transfusion is a valid emergency alternative because 100% of treated dogs accepted human blood type O + presenting just 2 slight cases muscle tremor and dark defecation with rapid spontaneous recovery.
