New records of glironia venusta thomas, 1912 (Mammalia, didelphidae) from Southeastern Ecuador

Abstract:

In South America, the known distribution of Glironia venusta was restricted to the Amazonian lowland forests, whose altitudinal range did not exceed the 650 m. Here, we report two records of the species found between 1577 and 1620 m above sea level in the Cordillera del Cóndor. This information extends the altitudinal distribution of the species by 970 meters to the montane forests in the eastern Andean foothills. In addition, we report two new records of this opossum for tropical rainforests of the Amazon. Thus, Ecuador now has eight confirmed localities recorded for the species.
