Nonlinear Adaptive Control Design for Power System with STATCOM device

Abstract:

An adaptive controller based on backstepping methods is proposed in this paper and applied to a single machine infinite bus system (SMIB) integrated with static synchronous compensator (STATCOM). The parameter uncertainty is addressed in this paper for the unknown damping coefficient of the synchronous generator. Moreover, the mechanical input power of the synchronous generator is considered as unknown to take into account the unexpected behavior of the consumers. The adaptation laws are designed for those unknown disturbances based on Lyapunov analysis. To evaluate the proposed controller, different system conditions such as three-phase short circuit fault, parameter change, and rotor angle tracking test are considered. Lyapunov stability analysis and simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed controller in damping oscillations and tracking performance.
