Novel Indoor Localization System Using Optical Camera Communication

Abstract:

Nowadays indoor localization is a trending research topic due to its use in the location-based services. The inclusion of low-cost LEDs devices and cameras with better characteristics in the market, impulse the use of Optical Camera Communication (OCC) for Indoor Positioning Systems. We proposed a new real-time indoor positioning system for multiple devices using OCC and LED beacons. The beacons are positioning at a static distance from the camera, forming a virtual plane that allows a simplification of the trigonometric relations' equations. The preliminary results showed a mean square location error of 1.85cm with an average process time around 48ms.
