Novel PID-SMC Controller for Cûk Coverter in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Wind Generator with MPPT Control

Abstract:

The present paper describes a novel cascade PID and SMC controller for a Cûk converter, instead of a common SEPIC converter, as the electrical drive, for a 10 kW permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) into a variable speed wind energy conversion system (WECS), the mathematical model of the Cûk circuit obtained by the small-signal model leads the optimal tuning parameters for the controllers. In order to warranty the optimal power generation a Perturb & Observe Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm is implemented, therefore the WECS is able to reach the maximum power point generation within minimum final error and a setting time minor than 50 ms for different wind profiles and wind speed only measuring electrical variables and its changes. The proposed system is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink in order to mimic the expected behavior.
