Nutritional assessment in the elderly in the headquarters of ambulatory care center Number. 302 of Cuenca. February-July 2015


Abstract:

Objective: Assess the nutritional status of older adults outpatient care number. 302 in the city of Cuenca. February-July 2015 Materials and Methods: It is an observational, descriptive cross sectional study, quantitative. They took 107 older adults attending outpatient, both genders Ambulatory Care Center with reference to the inclusion criteria. The instrument used was a form previously validated. The results were processed in the system SPSS version 15.00. In addition Epidat version 3.1 was used to determine the prevalence ratio. Results: The prevalence of malnutrition was 4.7%; 63.6% (68) of the older adults correspond to the male gender; 61.7% (66) were between the ages of 65 and 74 years. The autonomy was observed as a protective factor for malnutrition (PR = 0.14; 95% CI = 0.02-0.91; P value = 0.02) and the comorbidities had a statistically significant association associated to malnutrition (PR= 7.65; 95% CI = 0,82-71,14; p value = 0.03). Conclusions: Malnutrition had a statistically significant association with comorbidities as a risk factor; however, the autonomy to plan, purchase and prepare their food was associated as a protective factor.
