Nutritional habits in a community.
Abstract:
Of 404 healthy men aged from 17 to 26, but mainly from 19 to 21 years, members of a marine infantry battalion, 75% or more accepted 89 of 159 foods commonly used in Venezuela. Preference was greatest for sweet foods, beverages and fruits, followed by cereals, bread and pasta, and roots; least used were vegetables, shellfish, milk and dairy products. Food preferences were classified also according to the regions from which the men came: west, Andes, centre and east. Those from the west had the most varied eating habits.
