Nutritional status and dietary habits of amateur footballers, Senior category, Series A of Rumiñahui Cantonal League, Ecuador


Abstract:

Introduction: Nutritional status footballers expressed as organic food covers energy needs and support for athletic performance. Objective: To evaluate the nutritional status and dietary habits of amateur footballers, Senior category, the Cantonal Serie A League Rumiñahui, Ecuador Methods: A sample of 74 individuals was applied anthropometric measurements for Body Mass Index (BMI), percent body fat (% GC), body surface area (BSA), muscle mass (MM), body composition (CC) and conicity index (CI) and calculate the Basal metabolic rate (BMR / Kcal) Estimated Energy Requirement (EER) and level of physical activity (NAF). A survey was applied to explore the eating habits of the subjects / sample. Results: Anthropometric variables show a mean age of 24.72 years, BMI = 22.39, a GC% in 1635 and 1.24 IC, the MM is 36.82 kg, with a CC 10.36 ± 0.51. BMR Kcal 1643.15, 2852.21 Kcal REE and NAF 1.74. The sport is 2 hours / week, eat three meals, breakfast and affect between food prefer animal protein. Perform a high intake of soft drinks and sports drinks. Discussion: The results show an insufficient period of practice, the players have anthropometric characteristics that exceed the regular values established teams. They have eating habits that do not favor them for proper athletic performance. Conclusions: The present sample takes practice and recreational players, acting very spontaneous and traditional in their food habits and hydration mode.
