Nutritional status and frailty in community-dwelling older adults of Guayaquil, Ecuador


Abstract:

Methods: Retrospective, cross-sectional study conducted in Guayaquil between February-December 2019. Data were from 250 community-dwelling men and women aged≥ 65 years who signed an informed participation consent. Exclusion criteria: individuals with physical and/or functional disabilities, lack of mobilization autonomously. Nutritional status was determined using Mini Nutritional Assessment-Short Form (MNA-SF). Frailty was measured with FRAIL Test. The correlation was evaluated with the Spearman test. The significance level was p< 0.05. The study counted with an IRB approval No: HCK-CEISH-19-0038 Results: 250 participants with a mean age of 73, 4±11, 7 years; 70% were women. According to the MNA-SF, 45, 2%(n= 113) were at risk of malnutrition and 13, 6%(n= 34) were malnourished. The Frail test shows that 21, 6%(n= 54) were frail.
