OVERCROWDING IN ECUADORIAN PRISONS AND VIOLATION OF HUMAN DIGNITY
Abstract:
Human dignity is a universal right, therefore, this research focuses on analyzing the current situation of Ecuadorian prisons, which are becoming more and more riotous every day, resulting in a series of rights violations. The penitentiary crisis in Ecuador is increasing, denoting situations of overcrowding, precariousness in the system of social rehabilitation and guarantees protected by the Constitution, and that through the research conducted for this article, it is clearly evidenced that persons deprived of liberty (PPL) are in a constant double vulnerability to the structural failures of the rehabilitation system and that minimizes rights and guarantees of human dignity, physical, psychological and sexual integrity, and that encompasses the legal and institutional insecurity that represent the prisons.
