Observations on the fruits and seeds of neotropical Lecythidaceae

Abstract:

Fruit characteristics, embryo types, and funicle-aril features are described for the genera of neotropical Lecythidaceae. Their bearing on the taxonomy of the family is discussed and a generic key based on fruit and seed features is provided. The anomalous seed structure of Asteranthos brasiliensis is pointed out.
