Obstetric violence by health personnel from the perspective of women who attend a hospital in Azuay, Ecuador.


Abstract:

Background: obstetric violence is con-sidered a public health and human rights problem, it has a multifactorial beginning where institutional and gender violence con-verge. Objective: to determine the percep-tions of women in labor about obstetric violence in a hospital in Azuay, Ecuador for the 2019 period. Methodology: qualitative study under the framework of phenomenological sociology, aimed at determining the types of violence: against the female body, communi-cation, in the form of service, rights, power relations, in women aged 18 to 40-year-old. The sampling was intentional and reasoned, including people who voluntarily agreed and signed the informed consent. 19 in-depth, semi-structured interviews and surveys were conducted. The narrative content analysis technique was used, and the program used was Atlas Ti. V. 8. Results: high communication violence was exposed, followed by violence against rights, violence in power relations, violence against the female body and lastly violence in the form of service. Conclusions: the presence of obstetric violence was evidenced; However, due to ignorance of the issue of obstetric violence and their rights, patients perceive adequate treatment.
