Occupational accidents with biological risk during clinical practice in students of the nursing career
Abstract:
Occupational accidents are injuries suffered by professionals in their work, even to which health personnel are exposed, including students who carry out their pre-professional practices. Objective: Identify work accidents with biological risk in nursing interns at the Catholic University of Cuenca. Materials and methods: Study with a quantitative approach with a descriptive scope, the sample consisted of 52 students who completed their internship in the period May 2018 - April 2019 within the community and hospital areas, the instrument used was a questionnaire submitted to validation by experts in the subject. Results: It was obtained that 88.5% of the study population belonged to the female sex, the most prevalent age range was 22-24 years with 59.8%, with regard to occupational accidents, those of the type biological with 53.8%. Conclusions: It was identified that the occupational accidents with the highest exposure of nursing interns are: percutaneous and mucocutaneous, with higher exposure when medication and injections are applied.
