Old women game

Abstract:

Game is a recurring motif in José Donoso's production. An author aesthetics can be tracked upon the ludic forms and extents in his fiction.In The obscene bird of night, the wrappings created by the “old women”, which are completely pointless, become an unfolding of the creative act that grows in this novel-wrapping-game. The ludic matter works not only at the very basic level of representation, but also through a range of possibilities as a fictional device.Finally, through competition and mimicry, the novel displays the link between space and play, as well as the potential of ludic space to merge historical and mythical time.
