On-line observability determination as a further result of state estimation algorithms

Abstract:

On-line observability determination of a power system is a desirable feature to be added to a state estimation algorithm when used as a basic tool in the central dispatching. In the present paper, a new approach to on-line observability computation is developed. Two general state estimation algorithms are extended with this computation which is easily implemented in real time mode. The new algorithms allow the analysis of network observability condition when a measurement variable is deleted either by a meter failure or by a bad data detection. The algorithms have been implemented in a laboratory computer-attached network. Some practical considerations and conclusions are finally shown.
