Once upon a time…, Spanish children’s animation


Abstract:

From the eighties begins the tour of the series of children’s animation made in Spain. Its main competitors are those produced mainly in the United States and Japan. This investigation considers if the Spanish production contains distinctions that allow to configure a own brand with respect to the international creations. The series broadcasted throughout the history of national television are analyzed by observing indicators such as the gender of the protagonists, their age, number of chapters, duration, aesthetics, narrative genre and especially the producers, co-producers and their nationality of origin. The results show an evolution in Spanish animation and characteristics that define it as genuine compared to the mainstream North American and Eastern.
