Operational speeds estimation method for fixed-wing UAVs design for aerial photography
Abstract:
In airplanes design, it is important to consider operational speeds as a starting point. This defines the aerodynamic design, stability, control, energy consumption, autonomy, loads and structure. This research presents a method for calculating operational speeds for efficient aerial photography, based on; flight plan, sensor, operating environment and aeronautical regulations, starting from the analysis of objects to be observed in photographs, which defines the spatial resolution, and allows the mission to be designed. These data, allow us to define the flight plan and to proceed with the velocity analysis based on the photograph overlap and characteristics of the sensor, also, regulations for the design of unmanned aircraft are applied, to maintain safety. Disturbances such as wind influence the accuracy of photographs, so in order to take the photograph or not, a decision-making procedure is proposed.
