Optimal Placement of PMUs Using Henry Gas Solubility optimization for State Estimation of Power System

Abstract:

All power system sectors, such as protection, wide-area monitoring, and network control, necessitate the use of smart tools such as Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs), which provide full observability while also minimizing state estimate errors for the main network. Given that the PMU placement is seen as an optimization problem (OPP), observing all buses with the least number of units while considering system topology and Zero Injection Buses (ZIBs) is a significant difficulty. Consequently, this paper introduces a state estimation depending on utilizing the optimal placement of PMU. As a result, OPP is solved using a novel approach known as Henry Gas Solubility optimization (HGSO). Two typical IEEE systems (14-bus and 30-bus) are used to check the performance of the HGSO. The obtained results indicate that using the ZIB while allocating PMU placement decreases the number of installed units while keeping the system fully observable. The impact of PMU placement in reducing estimate errors is also investigated using a state estimation study.
