Optimal allocation of distributed generation/shunt capacitor using hybrid analytical/metaheuristic techniques
Abstract:
Nowadays, electric power distribution systems are facing a challenging role to deal with increasing continuous loads; increasing loads can lead to voltage drop and increase power losses in radial distribution systems. In recent years distributed generation (DG) and shunt capacitor (SC) technology utilization have expanded in the world as a result of their potential significance. Optimal locations and sizing of DGs and SCs near to the loads give the best solutions for power loss reduction and improve the overall voltage profile and reliability of the system. In this chapter, hybrid (analytical-metaheuristic) techniques are proposed for determining DGs anxd SCs’ locations and sizes in the radial distribution networks. The main advantages of the hybrid techniques are that it is very accurate and has good performance compared with other different techniques, which can provide or give optimal results in terms of voltage improvement, loss reduction, reliability, and improvement the efficiency of the system. The suggested technique is applied on IEEE 33- and 69-bus radial distribution networks and the results are compared with different techniques.
