Optimización de la oferta vial para el transporte privado de la ciudad de Azogues

Abstract:

The road transport optimization for the private transport in Azogues city is obtained through the operation of Intelligent Transportation Systems, which correspond to a set of solutions, designed to improve the transport operation and safety. On that basis, and taking into account the uncontrolled vehicle fleet increasing, triggering serious congestion problems; a comprehensive study on transportation optimization is performed, on Azogues city, the capital of the Province of Cañar. A holistic analysis including all transportation modes (except heavy transport) is completed; this approach will help on the search for solutions focusing on improving traffic within the city. Solutions are proposed for the main aggravating congestion factors, the main phases on this study are: the intersections (or conflict points), traffic lights, signaling, and private vehicles. In the first place, the city was demarcated taking into account the areas with the greatest vehicular movement, with an approximate area of 1.65 km2. Vehicle counts were carried out at the main intersections and supply areas, manually, for 15 consecutive days in at least 6 hours of increased vehicular traffic. This counting was performed with trained personnel. On intersections, an analysis of capacity and levels of service was carried out and improvements were proposed for the road supply within the area. The solutions include optimization of traffic lights. Finally, working with the Synchro program, the solution alternatives were modeled, focusing on evaluating and finding the best the options technically and economically speaking.
