Análisis de los factores de éxito en la producción y comercialización de los productos textiles de Otavalo
Abstract:
Otavalo is the largest recognized indigenous community in Ecuador, thanks to its textile products, both for its versatility, quality, design and creativity. This article analyzes the processes, strategies, methods and efforts used by traders and producers of the different scenarios of Otavalo textile production, to understand the success factors of the Otavalo market and take as an example for emerging communities in the country, through the compilation of the most relevant research on the history of Otavalo and how they managed to stand out among many indigenous communities. The study compiles an interesting range of testimonies from people in the area among traders and producers who tell the current situation of the community in terms of commercialization of textile products. The research addresses the importance of preserving the textile traditions of manufacturing processes and marketing methods to care for the essence and identity of the Otavalo which, with the new generations, the increasingly updated machinery and competition has had a visible loss of what was once common in culture and is now something scarce: authenticity in textile processing. The analysis of the causes of these problems, although they are not evident, serves to understand how they affect the Otavalo textile market that today has lost strength in its identity. As a consequence, the importance of the use and preservation of ancient processes and ancestral practices in the manufacture of Otavalo's characteristic products will be understood.
