Optimization model for the estimation of standard times in the assembly industry

Abstract:

In production processes, production times represent an important factor that influences business competitiveness regarding a timely meeting of business objectives. This article proposes a mathematical optimization model based on the minimization of a non-linear objective function, for estimating standard times with a minimum error from a variance analysis (ANOVA) standpoint, in comparison from the results obtained with respect to those achieved with the conventional chronometer methodology. Results are validated using two study cases of assembly lines of televisions and electronic cards. Finally, in order to provide a better understanding of these study cases, in terms of inputs, outputs and processes, the corresponding business process models are developed for the strategic, operational and support levels and the standard times are calculated using the Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN).
