Organizational indicators to compare case tools in Venezuela
Abstract:
It is known that the selection, acquisition and implementation process of a CASE -Computer Aided Software Engineering- tool in an organization is a complex process, fundamentally because of the technical aspects of the tool that must be taken into account as well as the organization aspects of the company that adopt it, since the impact of a tool is not simply the product of its inherent properties but also of the nature of the development process of the Information Systems and the organization itself. Based on the above and on the support provided by CASE tools for the development of this kind of system, on the large quantity and variety of the latter that are present on the market, on the characteristics of the organizations which develop these systems in Venezuela and on the strategic importance of the selection of a CASE tool for the Information Systems development, as per the needs of the specific organization, this paper proposes a series of organizational indicators with their corresponding measur ement variables that offer a quantitative means of comparing different CASE tools from the organizational standpoint according to the characteristics inherent in an organization developing this kind of system in Venezuela. Finally, the execution of a field study in Information Systems development companies in Venezuela is proposed in order to evaluate and refine the indicators presented herein, for the purposes of offering a reference framework to systems development organizations in Venezuela that would facilitate and make the selection process of CASE tools an efficient and effective process.
