Osteoporosis y factores de riesgo asociados en pacientes con artritis reumatoide de los hospitales Vicente Corral Moscoso y José Carrasco Arteaga


Abstract:

Objective: Determine the prevalence of osteoporosis and its risk factors in patients with a previous diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis, for effective prevention and treatment to improve their quality of life. Method and materials: This is a cross-sectional study involving 100 female patients with an established diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis attending the outpatient department of Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital and Jose Carrasco Arteaga Hospital in the period from February to July 2012. For the diagnosis of osteoporosis were used bone density test, and a questionnaire for gynecological history, anthropometry, medication use and the International Physical Activity test. We obtained the prevalence ratio with 95% CI and P value for risk and demonstrate statistical significance respectively, between the presence of osteoporosis and associated risk factors. Results: The prevalence of osteoporosis in patients with rheumatoid arthritis was 30%, was more common in patients over 46 years with 40,8% (RP=11,84), early menopause 53,6% (RP=2,69), normal body mass index 68.9%, corticosteroid use 76,4% (RP=3,37), and sedentary life 67,9% (RP=1,60). Conclusions: Female patients with rheumatoid arthritis have a frequency of osteoporosis of 30%, in the study group was association with age and use of corticosteroids.
