P2‐336: Disentangling Depression from Subjective Cognitive Decline in Non‐Demented Older Adults: The Vanderbilt Memory and Aging Project
Abstract:
Background Subjective cognitive decline (SCD) may represent an early marker of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) but non-cognitive symptoms associated with AD (depression) may exaggerate the presence SCD and the co-occurrence of these two constructs is not well understood. To refine SCD, we first examined if the presence of SCD items in a depression assessment tool confounds the relation between SCD and depression. Second, we measured whether factors of depression differentially relate to SCD endorsement across the cognitive aging spectrum. Methods Participants included 161 cognitively normal (NC; 73±7, 60% male) and 149 mild cognitive impairment (MCI; 73±7, 60% male) from the Vanderbilt Memory & Aging Project, a case control cohort. All participants scored within the normal range (< 10) on the 30-item Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) and completed a multi-questionnaire SCD protocol. Factors of …
