PERCEPTION OF CONDOM USE AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE PRO TECTION OF SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES IN STUDENTS OF THE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF BABAHOYO
Abstract:
The level of perception of condom use and its relationship with protection against sexually transmitted diseases was determined through a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study with 360 young men and women between 16 and 24 years of age, students of the Technical University of Babahoyo, Faculty of Health Sciences, Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. For data collection, a questionnaire of open-ended questions was used, associating knowledge and risk of sexually transmitted infections. The participants were predominantly between 18 and 24 years old, single, and studying from the first to the sixth semester of university. In relation to knowledge, a high level of knowledge predominated. In addition, it was observed that the lack of risk perception predominates in these students. They do not use condoms, although theoretically they recognize their importance. The need to reinforce knowledge for a high risk perception was identified, thus creating awareness among students to maintain adequate sexual and therefore reproductive health.
