POTENTIAL GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION OF THE SPECIES Cuniculus Paca IN WESTERN ECUADOR
Abstract:
Neotropical wildlife conservation requires awareness increase of their habitat knowledge. The purpose is identify the potential geographical distribution of the habitat of the Cuniculus Paca (guanta) in the western of Ecuador. The Maxent program used for identification of the habitat and Geographic Information System (GIS) for the algebraic crossing of the geographical factors (landforms, land uses and population density). The abiotic variables that determine the habitat are the precipitation of quarter more warm, the quarter more dry and the quarter more cold and the altitude. The potential area of 19.948 Km(2), which 5% of native forest, 37.18% of hills, 26.25% of alluvial plains and 36% of high population density. We conclude that the optimum habitat of the species is very involved and it is therefore proposed as a measure of environmental reconstruction the design of ecological corridors and buffer zones.
