Parametric gain on dispersion compensated fiber links

Abstract:

The effects of parametric gain (PG) on amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise to dispersion compensated links are studied showing that compensation greatly modifies the PG spectral features when compared to a non-compensated link. The dependence of PG on the distance between compensating fibers and transmitted optical power, and its influence on a fiber link are analyzed. When total dispersion compensation is used, the dispersion does not affect the performance. The threshold of PG for the system is around 0 dBm suggesting that PG is an important limiting nonlinear effect in long-haul transmission.
