Percepción de bienestar psicológico en adultos mayores de entre 70 y 80 años que asisten a un programa para la tercera edad en la ciudad de Quito
Abstract:
Elderly People are part of the population that experience the last stage in life within which must go through different kinds of situations due to this mentioned changes, it is possible that their psychological well-being is affected; the term “psychological well being” will be addressed from the perspective of positive psychology, which proposes the study of the mental health from the promotion and prevention by highlighting the importance of the individual’s strengths in order to allow them to overcome the external situations that are causing his or her instability. The sample was composed of 60 participants, from which 30 were female and 30 male, the participants went to different workshops and they voluntarily accepted to be involved in this research. The scale of psychological well-being given by Carol Ryff was applied in its Spanish adaptation composed of 39 items that evaluate six dimensions: (selfacceptance, positive relationships, autonomy, environmental mastery, personal growth and purpose in life) developed by Diaz et al. The results were obtained in percentual values and show that self-acceptance with 80.27 % it’s the highest rated followed by environmental mastery with 79.58 % and then autonomy with 77.95 %, purpose in life is rated with 75.09 %, positive relationships have a 71.16 % score, and final personal growth with a percentage of 65.63 % is found. There is a difference between the psychological well-being of men vs women, being men from the sample the ones who possess a higher welfare, the two research groups were evaluated by the U test from Mann Withney, obtaining a value U=350 and u= 550, the U critical value is 290 which was compared to the minor result (U=550) and was surpassed with a significance level of p<0.05, therefore it is determined that the difference is statistically significant.
