Perception on diseases transmitted by arthropods of the nursing graduate University of Guayaquil, 2020


Abstract:

Global public health is affected by the high morbidity and mortality from arthropod-borne vector diseases (EVTAs), however, the path to a healthy life for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals, involves joining efforts between higher education institutions, nursing staff and the community for the activation of prevention and control mechanisms for EVTAs. For what characterize the perception of the professional competencies of the graduate of nursing of the University of Guayaquil for the prevention and control of. EVTAs period 2019.2020, was the objective of this observational cross-sectional descriptive study.It had a sample of 187 graduates between 27 and 45 years, nurses working in the Primary Care Services where dengue, zika, chikungunya, lymphatic filiariasis, onchocerciasis, malaria, yellow fever, schistomiasis, chagas, plague and leishmaniasis are endemic. Results: the perception of the competences acquired during schooling that can be used by the nursing graduate to attend EVTAs reveal that microbiology contributes 40.32%, community nursing (73.87%) and research (43.87%) respectively, the competencies developed in response to occupational roles highlighted early diagnosis (41.71%), teaching the patient to self-care (76.47%) and participating in research related to EVTAs (65.78%). The study revealed that out of 187 respondents, 58 were beginners in EVTAs, 66 were advanced beginners and 67 were proficient according to Benner's approach.
