Performance and postural balance in expert and novice in deaf distance runner. Cases study
Abstract:
Introduction: Postural control is related to corporal ability in maintain a correct alignment in relation to the gravity center, being an influential variable in the athletic performance. Objective: We study to distance runner with auditory deficiency, determining the existence of an association between lower limb posture balance and sports performance, applying a case study as a preliminary step. Methods: Three hearing impaired athletes, two elite (experts) and one amateur (novice) were studied. The Unterberger-Fukuda Test and the Star Excursion Balance Test are applied to people with disabilities, assessing direct and indirect performance indicators such as postural balance, flexibility, coordination and strength. Results: Different mean values were obtained in studied cases that described the sample. When Pearson’s r-moment was applied, an inverse correlation was determined between both variables with a highly significant index, determined with the average or mean in the results obtained from the right and left support and in the 1 500 m test (-0.993458501) and in 5000m test (-0.748584948). Conclusions: It is evident that a greater percentage of the postural balance, the shorter times used in athletes to complete 1 500 m and 5 000 m tests in athletics, which is why a greater postural balance can influence a greater sports performance.
