Phenolic compounds present in talipariti elatum Sw species flowers

Abstract:

Introduction: flowers of Talipariti elatus Sw. are used by local population for medicinal purposes. The chemical composition of flowers is almost unknown because of flavonol gossypitrin is the unique compound identified by spectroscopic methods unambiguously. Objective: to identify chemical components from flowers of Talipariti elatus Sw. Methods: an ethanol extract (50%, v/v) obtained employing flowers of Talipariti elatus Sw. was fractionated by chromatographic methods including conventional column chromatography (sephadex LH-20 and Silica gel) and HPLC. The structural characterization of isolated compounds was performed on the basis of NMR and mass methods. Results: flavonols gossypitrin, quercetin-3-sophoroside and rutin were isolated together protocatechuic acid. Conclusions: this phytochemical study allowed identifying three chemical components from flowers of Talipariti elatum S.w. by first time, two flavonol glycosides and one aromatic carboxylic acid. Flavonol gossypitrin was also identified.
