Photoemission of low-dimensional carbon systems
Abstract:
This chapter presents an overview and a progress report of the use of photoemission spectroscopy techniques, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), as key tools to understand the bulk properties of sp2-hybridized carbon systems. An explanation is given of how they can be used to analyze the changes in the site-selective valence and conduction band electronic structure of carbon nanotubes and graphene. The properties of the systems are discussed in terms of their relationship to the density of states of the valence band. Substitutional doping of heteroatoms such as nitrogen in functionalized graphene is examined. © 2014 Woodhead Publishing Limited. All rights reserved.
