Photothermal characterization of materials biomineralized by mollusks (invited)

Abstract:

The application of photoacoustic techniques in the optical and thermal characterization of mollusk-made biominerals was discussed. Two bivalve species with strong structural and architectural differences, oysters and mussels were considered. The thermal diffusivity, visible and infrared absorption spectra, and x-ray analysis results demonstrated the differences between aragonite and calcite made biominerals.
