Photovoltaic devices under partial shading conditions

Abstract:

This paper describes the implementation of a dynamic model for PV devices using MATLAB/Simulink®. This model studies the electrical and thermal behavior of PV devices that operate under partial shading conditions. The circuitry-oriented model is based on electrical and thermal equations. This model takes into account effective irradiance (partial shading), ambient temperature, wind speed, as well as the thermal capacitance of the PV module. It can be used for both long-term and transient simulations, and is able to represent the performance of a single PV cell/module or group of cells/modules under partial shading conditions. Consequently, this article describes safety considerations regarding PV devices (thermal stress) and the variation of PV performance, which are the direct result of such conditions. © 2012 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l. - All rights reserved.
