Physical-recreational activities to reduce obesity in women between 35-50 years old
Abstract:
Introduction: Considered an illness, obesity is a significant variable associated to health problems such as diabetes, high-blood pressure and heart conditions, and can be treated with efficient strategies related to physical activity. Objective: The research paper aims to design and implement a group of physical and recreational activities to reduce the obesity level in women aged 35-50 years. Methods: The study includes 23 female patients with obesity problems of the Manuela Cañizares Center. The activities were developed for 42 weeks based on a prior diagnosis of the Body Mass Index (BMI), using the scale of the American Heart Association, repeating the diagnosis tests during the treatment (Week: 1; 7; 14; 21; 28 and 42). Results: The comparison of the initial and final tests established a significant difference according to the Wilcoxon signed-rank test (p=0,000), in favour of the reduction of the Body Mass Index of the sample studied, as it was established by the ranks (23 negative ranks) of the non-parametrical statistic test. On the other hand, the Friedman test determined the consecutive existence of a reduction of the BMI as the program of physical activities was implemented week after week (p= 0,000). Conclusions: The systematic put in practice of the physical and recreational exercises contributes to a long term reduction of overweight in mature women (35-50 years).
