Análisis de pertenencia e identidad en los quiteños a partir de los símbolos de las siete cruces situadas en la calle García Moreno


Abstract:

This document is an overview of an in-depth investigation which reflects, as a key axis, the García Moreno Street or the Street of the Seven Crosses as traditional public space and symbolic of oral communication which is strategically located in Quito Historic Center. The research addresses the context of the neighborhood as articulator of communication; the historical construction of the neighborhoods and the history of the García Moreno Street (past and present). On this basis, the investigation develops an analysis on the importance of the cross to the people living in Quito, as the main Christian symbol and as an element of identity and belonging. The exploration of data was based on the social-cultural, symbolical, and religious relation of the people from Quito with the seven Crosses located in the García Moreno Street: the six Churches and the Hospice where they are located…
